2011 SUPERFROG Half Ironman

Truly making a difference in this world can be accomplished by taking small steps, directed towards a common cause, with an equally passionate team of people.  Last weekend Team RWB athletes across the USA did exactly this.  I cannot begin to list the number of athletic endeavors Team RWB undertook last weekend, but I can assure you that we had the entire United States of America covered, literally from coast-to-coast!  This blog is about how Team RWB shook up the west coast!

The first sentence of the SUPERFROG Information webpage states, “This race course is not for the faint of heart.”  The course is designed by Navy SEALs--people who would be expected to know how to piece together a challenging event.  High surf, cold water, wind, plus over 8 miles of sand running kept this race true to its claim of being “one of the toughest long distance triathlons around.”  It was my first half ironman as a pro, I finished second overall in 4:33:17, and I LOVED IT!

     I LOVED it becaus
e the focus was honoring the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy in addition to the recent fallen Navy SEALs and NSW personnel who have given their lives in combat and training operations.  The Taps bugle call played, salutes were rendered, and a moment of silence overcame everyone as we paid the proper respects.  I stood alongside fellow Team RWB supporters, preparing to race in honor of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and who will never be forgotten.

West Point cadets flew across the entire country to compete in this event and to represent Team RWB.  Together, with fellow Team RWB supporters from San Dieg
o, we all honored not only the fallen Americans but the always inspiring wounded veterans who have persevered through unimaginable challenges.  We raced in the red, white, and blue and had a great time doing so!

I would also like to thank other race organizers who went out of their way to recognize this special day, particularly the Rev3 event in Cedar Point, Ohio.  I saw photos and video clips of equally moving displays of patriotism.  Great job to everyone who did something to make this such a memorable day!  Even John and Judy Collins, creators of the ironman distance triathlon, came to the race to give out awards and to support the SUPERFROG event!
